After lots of time, hard work and fun, my album is finally done. "Searching for Paradise, Got Lost on the Way" is the artistic creation that I am most proud of. It represents so much about who I am and what I believe in, as a teacher, as a believer in social justice, as an advocate in the power of empathy.
Creating this art has been nothing short of amazing; working with incredible, passionate, creative, talented musicians like Batsauce, Christine and Justin Eck, Kimani Rogers, Tarik Holder, Tedd Boyd, Paten Locke, Akrobatik, and Keith Witty has been such an honor and a blessing. The fact that I know and have been able to work with such incredible artists is an inspiring and humbling thing. This album contains so much art that is at the core of who I am as an educator. Included within these songs, and my hopes for how other educators will use them, is a belief in the power of words to change the world. Through literature, the study of history, and empathy we can imagine ourselves into diverse and divergent experiences that are not ours; we can imagine the world that we want, but does not yet exist, a world of justice and peace. Let's make the world that we imagine!
