I had the opportunity to once again be involved in the amazing Martin Luther King, Junior Children's celebration this year at the Jackson Street Elementary School. My wife and I both helped organize and run activities with the help of our amazing friends Ousmane and Melissa Power-Greene. It was a beautiful event, as always. There were somewhere around 300-400 people in attendance, ranging from toddlers to elders, all coming together to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King and to commit to continuing the important work that still needs so badly to be done. I was blessed with the opportunity to work with a group of 12 youth poets ranging from fourth grade through eighth grade for 45 minutes. They crafted poems inspired by the lives and words of important figures in the Civil Rights Movement--people like Septima Clark, Medgar Evers, Fannie Lou Hamer, John Lewis, Malcolm X, and more. Their work was inspiring. I also rocked my song about Martin Luther King, Junior called "Dream with Us". It was awesome!
